Work on the Heysham to M6 Link Road started in 2014 and the project has made good progress this summer. Building is now entering the final phase with the construction of the main carriageway and the road surface itself. We're also planting trees, shrubs, grass and flowers as part of the landscaping.
The link road will be open to the public later this year and some sections will be open sooner. The Northgate and Morecambe Road junctions will be reconfigured and all four slip roads will be opened before the whole project is finished.
With construction of the road progressing well, it's now time to choose an official name for the new route. This will be used to describe the road and feature on signposts, maps, and SatNavs. Help make history and vote for the official name today.
An incredible amount of work has been completed to get to this stage, and with less than a year to go until the road opens we’re already thinking ahead about how to mark the opening. Find out more
