The Infrastructure Planning Commission
In February 2011, the Department for Transport accepted the council’s ‘best and final’ funding bid after asking for the total cost of the scheme to be reduced as a result of the government’s Comprehensive Spending Review. Changes to the design of the road meant that an application needed to be submitted to the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) for planning permission. The IPC is an independent public body responsible for the assessment and approval of nationally significant infrastructure projects.
Following a lengthy process the Secretary of State for Transport granted approval for the road in March 2013. You can find more information at the Infrastructure Planning Commission website.
