Clearing the site for work to start
We've made a start on clearing the site to start construction of the link road. This work has included removing trees along the proposed route.
There will be a number of opportunities for work. The jobs we will recruit locally include; setting-out assistants, construction plant operators, ground workers, general operatives, testing technicians, secretarial and cleaners. There are also opportunities for site engineers, senior engineers and quantity surveyors. Some of the roles will be with our partners.
Pre-construction work is about to begin on the Heysham to M6 Link, following the recent judgement in the Court of Appeal. This decision clears the way for the main construction works to start in the new year.
Work may not have started on the M6 to Heysham link yet, but it hasn't stopped the team behind it raising money for a local charity.
There has been understandable concern about the effect that the proposed road will have on the natural environment. Our commitment to protecting the natural environment includes improving and creating wildlife habitats in the area affected by the road scheme.
Construction of the link road is planned to start this summer after the Secretary of State for Transport granted approval following a lengthy planning and public inquiry process.
