    Pre-construction work is about to begin on the Heysham to M6 Link, following the recent judgement in the Court of Appeal. This decision clears the way for the main construction works to start in the new year.

    WORK on the Heysham to M6 Link Road will begin in the New Year after a final attempt by objectors to derail the scheme was thrown out by the Court of Appeal. The link will provide better access to Morecambe and industrial areas which include the Port of Heysham and the Heysham power stations. It will also reduce congestion in the Lancaster area, particularly on Caton Road, Morecambe Road and the Greyhound and Skerton bridges.

    Further to the update on 15 October, the Judge in the Court of Appeal has refused objectors' (Transport Solutions for Lancaster and Morecambe - TSLM) application for permission to appeal the decision of the High Court.


  • Work on link road construction area begins

    The county council has begun constructing an area to accommodate staff, offices and equipment needed to build the Heysham to M6 Link Road. Work on the road itself will not start until the legal challenge against the decision to grant permission for the project has been completed, but having the depot in place will help reduce further costly delays.

    The county council is very disappointed that objectors to the link road, namely Transport Solutions for Lancaster and Morecambe (TSLM), have requested permission to appeal the decision by the High Court to reject permission to apply for a judicial review. (See previous update.)
