  • Retro Bridge install temporary bridges

    Retrobridge have installed two temporary bridges on the Heysham to M6 Link in Lancashire for main contractor Costain. The temporary structures, both Retro Light Bridges by specialist modular bridge supplier Retro Bridge, are the first of their kind to be installed in the UK.

  • Heysham to M6 Link Road - Cycle Safety Awareness Day

    Costain, appointed contractor for the Heysham to M6 Link Road hosted a Cycle Safety Awareness Day on Saturday 17th May 2014. The event took place at the Halton Road site and gave cyclists and the attending public an opportunity to sit in a Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) to observe driver’s blind spots and understand what they can see on the road. There was also a team on hand from Lancashire Police carrying out security stamping on bicycles.

  • Torrisholme Road Closure 7-9 April

    Torrisholme Road/Lancaster Road will be closed completely to vehicle traffic from 8am Monday 7th April to 6am Thursday 10th April; between Russell drive and 179 Torrisholme Road (by Lancaster & Morecambe College entrance).

    Engineers working on the Heysham to M6 Link Road have created a footpath and a cycleway diversion to accommodate work on the new West Lune Bridge, next to the existing M6 bridge across the River Lune.


  • Culvert installed under the Canal

    Walkers, runners, cyclists and of course canal boat enthusiasts will have noticed Costain works to the Slynedales Canal of late. As part of the Heysham to M6 Link Road scheme, works have included a crossing of Lancaster Canal. In the past few weeks engineers have installed two Portadam units that drain a section of the canal between the two dams.

  • Vegetation and Tree Clearance Update

    In response to recent queries made regarding tree removal and vegetation clearance for the Heysham to M6 Link Road, Project Manager for Lancashire County Council, Steve McCreesh said: "We’ve removed the minimum number of trees needed for the road to be built, and all of those which have been removed are within the footprint of the construction works. For every tree we remove during construction of the link road, 13 new trees will be planted – altogether we're removing 11,000 square metres of woodland and planting 150,000 square metres."
