Drivers using junction 34 of the M6 in Lancaster are being advised of changes to the road layout and traffic light signals sequencing as part of ongoing works for the Heysham to M6 Link Road.

At 8pm on Friday 29th May to 6am on Monday 1st June, a section of Caton Road (A683) will need to close to enable works on the Heysham to M6 Link Road to continue building the new junction layout near the existing motorway bridge.

Similar to the full closures earlier this year, and following liaison with the County Council's highways team, Stagecoach, and the Police, engineers will close the road between the M6 sliproads north and south, located either side of the M6. Although diversion signs will be erected, its important drivers familiarise themselves with alternative routes and plan their journeys ahead.

Motorway traffic will be diverted to the next junction depending on the direction drivers wish to travel on the M6. For example; southbound traffic from Lancaster will need to go north to junction 35 and then turnaround, likewise northbound traffic from Caton will also need to head in the opposite direction initially before re-joining the M6 at junction 33. Northbound traffic from Lancaster and southbound traffic from Caton should use the sliproads as normal.

Non-motorway traffic such as tractors, scooters, and learner drivers must use Low Road and Halton Road from the Crook O’Lune. Lancaster traffic bound for Caton will need to use the A6, Halton Road and Low Road.

Reminder - Torrisholme Road full closure 29/5/15 10pm – 1/6/15 6am

Torrisholme Road between Russell Drive and Endsleigh Grove will be fully closed to traffic to facilitate the installation of bridge sections over Torrisholme Road.

Pedestrian access along Torrisholme Road and Barley Cop Lane will be available throughout the weekend closure, on signposted walkways.

Access to the Crematorium and cricket clubs will be from the A6 end of Barley Cop Lane, due to the Torrisholme Road end being closed off.

Costain’s Project Director, Andrew Langley said “We’ve scheduled this work to be carried out over a weekend to reduce the impact on local traffic as much as possible. This closure of Torrisholme Road was always expected for the bridge beam lifts as part of the construction”.

Engineers will work around the clock from 10pm on Friday 29th May to ensure the work is complete in time for the closure to be removed on Monday morning.
