Costain, appointed contractor for the Heysham to M6 Link Road are hosting a Cycle Safety Awareness Day on Saturday 17th May 2014 from 10.30am to 2.30pm.

The day is free of charge and open to all ages. The event is intended to educate the general public on the importance of safety, when cycling in the vicinity of large goods vehicles.

The event will offer the ‘exchanging places’ initiative. Members of the public will be given the opportunity to sit in the driver’s seat of an LGV to gain an understanding of what drivers can see in respect of cyclists around the vehicle.

Events will include;

• Security-marking

• Demonstrations on safety

• Raffle for a brand new bike donated by Clive Hurt

• Refreshments

With the numbers of cyclists increasing it is hoped that this event will help to minimise the risks posed by LGVs to cyclists and will lead to a safer road environment.

The event will be held at Costain’s main site offices located off Halton Road next to Halton Army Training Camp. The Costain Compound entrance is via Gate 4.

Follow signs for Halton Training Camp (TC). Then use the fourth gate on the right when travelling along Halton Road from Lancaster. It is clearly signposted as Costain.

Parking is available on site, although we hope most will cycle.
