Bay Gateway - Beaumont Roundabout
Lane closures to be implemented on the approaches to Beaumont Roundabout
As a result of the recent traffic incidents at Beaumont Roundabout, Lancashire County Council will implement lane closures on the approaches leading up to and on the roundabout. A temporary speed restriction will also be placed on the westbound carriageway.
In order to implement these lane closures, at 8pm on Wednesday 23rd November 2016 the eastbound Bay Gateway will be closed from Morecambe Road to Beaumont roundabout. Traffic will be diverted east along the A589 Morecambe Road to junction 34 of the M6.
Once the lane closure is installed on the eastbound carriageway it will be reopened to traffic and works will progress to the westbound side. During which traffic exiting the M6 at junction 34 will be diverted along the A589 Caton Road towards Lancaster and the port of Heysham via a signed diversion.
The A6 link will remain open throughout.
Richard Helme Costain Project Manager stated
‘The scheme has been designed and constructed to meet current highways standards, however as a result of the recent incidents Lancashire County Council have requested that these lane closures are implemented as a temporary measure. We would still encourage people to drive with caution if they are not already familiar with the new road. The lane closures will remain in place whilst mitigation measures to address the issue are investigated’
